Vitea at HIMSS 2026: What Leaders Are Asking About Healthcare AI Governance

The Vitea team spent last week at HIMSS 2026 in Las Vegas, meeting with health system CIOs, CISOs, and digital health leaders from across the country. The Vitea team was onsite for a packed week of conversations about practical, system-wide AI oversight.

If there was one signal from the show floor, it's this: AI governance has moved from a "next year" conversation to a "right now" one. The questions we heard over and over:

• "How do we even know what AI is running in our environment?" Discovery came up in nearly every conversation. Leaders know sanctioned AI is only part of the picture — and that shadow AI usage across their workforce is the part they can't see.

• "Our policies exist on paper. How do we enforce them?" Governance committees are producing frameworks faster than IT can operationalize them. The gap between written policy and network-level enforcement was a consistent pain point.

• "Who's watching the models after go-live?" Post-deployment monitoring — drift, performance, bias — is the piece most organizations admit they haven't solved.

Discovery, enforcement, assurance. Health systems are converging on the same three problems — and it's exactly the stack we're building for.
